RadioheadRemix:NUDE

Excerpt (0’30″)

Entire work (5’25″)

The British rock band Radiohead has long been a part of my life, prior to my formal music training through today. Recently, the group made two of their songs available for remixing, including Nude, from which the source material (primarily the lead singer, Thom Yorke’s voice) of this work is derived.

Rather than presenting overt beats or gratuitous grooves (as with many remixes), I integrated elements from my own music (irregular form, the importance of unique events, harmonies derived from the features inherent in sound, etc.), in effort to form a collaborative compromise.

To further actuate the idea of remixing within my own musical context, this work can be performed with a semi-improvisational part, performed on an iPhone (Smule’s ocarina application) or other instruments (at my discretion). The work was written as part of Radiohead’s remix project and selected for Hz Collectives’ Call for Sound.
