It has come to my attention that among many other issues in the world, our current financial problems are threatening the elimination of an entire program at Michigan State University. Recently, a colleague passed along the news that the school will likely phase out their music therapy program. Along with the respective facebook group, details can be found here and here, accompanied by ways in which you can help counteract the proposition.

I used to frequent MSU’s library during my undergraduate work and honestly, am more familiar with their excellent saxophone program. That said, I have had the pleasure of gaining exposure to Music Therapy the past three years through my wife-to-be. My unbiased opinion leaves me quite concerned with the prospect of such a step backwards for an incredibly valuable, growing field. I don’t know that elaborating on the significance of this field is necessary in such a situation. Unless there are extraneous circumstances for which I am unaware, this simply shouldn’t happen. Investigate for yourself…take action!
